ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

A commitment to environmental stewardship is one of our core values at Great Western. As such, we employ the best and brightest on our team to develop forward-looking programs, initiatives, and technologies that enable us to produce the cleanest natural resources in our state and country. Learn more about the pillars of our environmental health and safety program in the below video.

Great Western invests best-in-class technologies and processes to meet and often exceed the tailored and stringent standards established by our local, state and federal governments and regulatory agencies. Because of this commitment to excellence, and innovative implementation of leading-edge technologies, we are proud that the oil and gas produced in the state of Colorado is some of the cleanest available.

Stewardship is a core value at Great Western, and one that defines our commitment to innovation and responsibility to the protection of the environment. We are Colorado-born, Colorado-built, and we are Coloradans with a commitment to protecting the state that is our home and where we choose to raise our families.

To celebrate that commitment to Stewardship, Great Western presents our annual Seal of Stewardship Program, which honors an employee for excellence in the fields of Innovation, Leadership, and Safety. These peer-nominated recognitions galvanize our commitment to these principals both as a company and as individuals, and are a part of the fabric of our culture and every day operations. Learn more about our Seal of Stewardship Program in the video below.

Our singular focus in the DJ Basin is along the western flank of the Wattenberg field (Weld and Adams County), where we have used innovation and technology to drastically increase our efficiencies and lessen our impact on the environment.

For example:

  • Since 2015, Great Western reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 48% per barrel of oil produced. This has been achieved through increased pipeline connectivity, joint efforts with counter parties, and on-site technological enhancements.
  • These innovations have all led to the accomplishment of Great Western eliminating 44,086 truck trips during the production of nearly nine million barrels of oil equivalent. Not only does this reduce emissions, it significantly lessens wear, tear and repair on local roads, reduces traffic and noise, and is a major improvement to safety in our communities.
  • Great Western leverages a dual-crew strategy on our sites that allows oil and natural gas to be extracted quickly with fewer disturbances. This has increased our efficiencies in drilling and completions and allowed us in some instances to cut in half our active time on a location and increases cash on cash cycle times.
